AP Music Theory

This class is intended for students with previous music experience and knowledge. Music Theory will prepare students for the AP Music Theory exam in May and their first year of college theory through the study of music elements, composition and ear training. You must have the consent of the instructor to enroll in this course.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE?
Students interested in a rewarding challenge should consider AP Music Theory. It is a deep dive into the formal structure of music. Consequently, the course requires regular practice as well as the traditional book learning associated with other courses. If you are considering attending a university or college in music then AP Music Theory should be a priority.

WHAT KNOWLEDGE WILL BE GAINED?
The goal of AP Music Theory is to develop a student’s ability to recognize, understand, and describe the basic materials and processes of music that are heard or presented in a score. You will develop skills in reading, listening, identifying, describing, and producing music using advanced processes, materials, and techniques.
