AP Chemistry

A full year course geared for science oriented college bound students. Heavy emphasis is
placed on problem solving and laboratory technique. A strong math background is necessary. Students may choose to write the AP test in the spring.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE?
Students interested in any science, chemistry, health, or engineering career will be well served in AP Chemistry. Also, students who found success in the previous chemistry class and want to continue studying chemistry content. Many degree tracks require multiple chemistry classes in college. AP Chemistry will help your student develop the background that will enable an easier transition into what many say is a difficult set of collegiate courses.

WHAT KNOWLEDGE WILL BE GAINED?
Students will leave with a skill set that will allow an easy transition into a college chemistry course. Topics studied include: reactions, electrochemistry, reaction and formula Stoichiometry, thermochemistry, atomic structure, bonding, equilibrium, acids and bases, states of matter, and kinetics.
