What are the Academic Eligibility Rules to participate in practices and contests?

CODE OF CONDUCT ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY

  1. Students in eligible standing to participate in practices and contests would appear as follows:
  1. No “F” in any class.
  2. Freshmen and Sophomore minimum GPA 1.7; Junior and Senior minimum GPA 2.00.
  1. A student receiving one (1) “F” or incomplete in a grading period or does not meet the GPA requirement, may continue participating in practices and contests.  The student is given until progress grades are due to prove eligibility. If they do not present evidence of eligibility when progress grades are due, student will be dismissed from the team or activity for the rest of the grading period.  Students having been identified with Exceptional Education Needs will follow their Individual Educational Program.ELL students will meet the criteria set forth by any modified educational plan.
  1. Students with more than one “F” or incomplete in a grading period will be allowed to practice, but cannot compete until progress grades are due. Once progress grades are due, the student must meet the GPA requirements and also be passing all classes in order to regain complete eligibility. If they do not present evidence of eligibility when progress grades are due, they will be dismissed from the team or activity for the rest of the grading period.
  1. A student may erase ineligibility status following the last grade-reporting period of the school year through summer school courses (including correspondence courses) at the same or some other school, provided the course(s) made up are equivalent to the one(s) that caused the ineligibility and are approved by the principal.

Fall Exception Rule:  Any student who receives more than one “F” or incomplete on the 2nd semester grade report and participates in a fall activity, will automatically be suspended from competing in the first 1/3 of the regular scheduled season/activity. After this 1/3 suspension is served, the student will be eligible to compete again. However, when 1st quarter progress reports are due, the student must be passing all classes in order to continue participation. If any failures are present on the progress report, the student will be removed from the activity for the remainder of the grading period.

**A grading period is defined as the 1st quarter, 1st semester, 3rd quarter, and 2nd semester grades.
