Michael Clifford '83

Mike Clifford '83Mike Clifford, Class of 1983, was a three-sport standout in football, basketball, and track and field, earning nine varsity letters during his Badger High School career. He was a two year letter winner in football, earning First Team All-Conference honors as quarterback his senior year. In basketball, Mike earned three varsity letters. His senior year, he earned first team All-Conference status and was a member of the Academic All-State team. He was a starter on the 1982 state tournament team. That same basketball team also won conference, regional and sectional championships. Mike was a four-time letter winner in track and field. He was the 1983 conference and sectional champion in the 800 meter run, thus qualifying him for the state track and field meet. He still holds the school record in the 800 meter run. His senior year, he was also the class president and co-valedictorian. After graduation, Mike attended the University of Chicago and competed in both football and basketball. He won two letters in football and was a four year letter winner in basketball, earning 2nd team All-Conference status during the 1987 season. Mike was also the recipient of the University of Chicago’s 1987 Amos Alonzo Stagg Medal, which is awarded to the university’s top senior athlete.

Inducted into the Badger Athletic Wall of Fame in 2004.
